Rain is rarely seen or received in Tankwa. Rain water becomes almost invisible - present yet forgotten, like a silent companion we only remember during moments of scarcity or abundance. As artists, we responded to this unique desert landscape in a way that acknowledges the land as a sacred entity, while focusing on themes of memory, healing, nourishment versus scarcity and  protection versus vulnerability.

Walking on the Tankwa landscape guided our exploration along unseen paths that carry stories distinct from the normalisedhurried urban existence. In this space, we asked: What does it mean to slow down, lose direction and still find meaning? What happens when we stop to truly feel where we are?

Our response to the Tankwa landscape materialised through installation art, performances and writing recorded in video work titled 'Umnikelo (The Offering)' and 'Remembering to Forget and Forgetting to Remember.'
